At A Better Life For Foster Kids, we believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported — no matter their circumstances.
We believe that every child deserves safety, dignity, and a sense of belonging — and that no carer should have to face the journey of fostering or kinship care alone.
Founded in 2014 by foster carer Heather Baird, our organisation delivers practical, timely, and compassionate support to children entering care and the carers who open their hearts and homes to them. From Crisis Cases packed with essentials to housing transition support, mental health programs, and community advocacy, we exist to fill the gaps in a stretched system and ensure no child feels unseen.
To deliver dignity, care, and connection to children in out-of-home care and the carers who support them, through practical support, advocacy, and programs that respond to real community needs.
Over 12,000 children currently in out-of-home care in Victoria
Average of 45 children enter care every week in the state
1 in 3 children enter care without adequate clothing or personal items
Regional carers report higher levels of isolation and limited access to support services
